Best Toners for Different Skin Types

Did you know that you need a specific type of toner for different skin types?

 

DRY SKIN  Needs a hydrating, moisturizing toner to help your skin maintain hydration and plump up those fine lines.  Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or shea butter as they are very moisturizing.


  • Rose Water Toner – Rose Water, Glycerin, Aloe Vera Gel

  • Aloe Vera Gel with Witch Hazel – Aloe Vera Gel, Witch Hazel

  • Lavender Chamomile Hydrosol with Balancing Herbs – Lavender Hydrosol, Chamomile Hydrosol, Witch Hazel

  • Rose Geranium Hydrating Toner – Rose Geranium Hydrosol, Lavender Hydrosol

 

SENSITIVE SKIN – A gentle toner is best so that it doesn’t irritate your skin.  Look for ingredients such as Aloe Vera or Arnica to soothe and hydrate.


  • Aloe Vera Gel with Witch Hazel – Aloe Vera Gel, Witch Hazel

  • Rose Water Toner – Rose Water, Glycerin, Aloe Vera Gel

  • Cucumber Hydrating Mist – Cucumber Hydrosol, Aloe Vera Gel

  • Gentle Chamomile Toner – Lavender Hydrosol, Chamomile Hydrosol

 

OILY SKIN – Astringent toners are best for oily skin.  Look for ingredients such as Witch Hazel or Apple Cider Vinegar to help shrink pores and tighten the skin.


  • Green Tea Toner – Green Tea Extract, Witch Hazel, Aloe Vera Gel

  • Apple Cider Vinegar with Rose Water – Apple Cider Vinegar, Rose Water

  • Rose Geranium Hydrating Toner – Rose Geranium Hydrosol, Lavender Hydrosol

 

COMBINATION SKIN – A balancing toner with help dry and oily areas.  Look for ingredients such as Aloe Vera or Witch Hazel to keep everything balanced.


  • Rose Water Toner – Rose Water, Glycerin, Aloe Vera Gel

  • Lavender Chamomile Hydrosol with Balancing Herbs – Lavender Hydrosol, Chamomile Hydrosol, Witch Hazel

  • Cucumber Hydrating Mist – Cucumber Hydrosol, Aloe Vera Gel

 

RECIPES


Rose Water Toner


This is a toner with Rose Water, Glycerin (a skin-identical ingredient that helps hydration) and Aloe Vera Gel.  Witch Hazel can be added as an astringent for oily areas or Chamomile Hydrosol to calm sensitive patches.


1 oz (30 ml) Rose Water – You can also make your own ***Rose Water

8-10 drops Vegetable Glycerin

8-10 drops Aloe Vera Gel (Witch Hazel or Chamomile Hydrosol for Sensitive Skin)

1 oz (30 ml) Glass Bottle with Sprayer


Pour the Rose Water into a glass bottle with sprayer.

Add Vegetable Glycerin and Aloe Vera Gel


Shake well to blend.


***To make a DIY Rose Water, simply boil a handful of Dried Rose Petals into water and let boil. Steep until cool, then pour through a cheesecloth to strain. The pour into your container/bottle. This must be refrigerated and used within 2 weeks.


Aloe Vera Gel with Witch Hazel


Perfect for dry skin types that need extra hydration.  The Aloe Vera gel helps with that, while the Witch Hazel has astringent properties to tighten the pores and is great for oily areas or acne-prone skin.


1 oz (30 ml) Aloe Vera Gel

15 drops Witch Hazel

1 oz (30 ml) Glass Bottle with Sprayer


Add the Aloe Vera Gel to the bottle and then add Witch Hazel. Shake well before each use. This does not need to be refrigerated.


Cucumber Hydrating Mist


Great for dry skin because the cucumber is a refresher, while the Aloe Vera Gel soothes and nourishes the skin,


1 oz (30 ml) Cucumber Hydrosol

15 drops Aloe Vera Gel

1 oz (30 ml) Glass Bottle with Sprayer


Add the Cucumber Hydrosol to a clean dark glass bottle.

Add the Aloe Vera Gel.

Shake well before each use.

 

Fennel Apple Cider Vinegar Toner


Perfect for oily and acne-prone skin types.  Fennel helps balance oil production and ACV balances the pH levels of the skin.


15 drops Fennel EO

15 drops Apple Cider Vinegar (Organic with Mother)

Water or Hydrosol of choice

1 oz (30 ml) Glass Bottle with Sprayer


Combine the Fennel EO with ACV, mix well and add to bottle.

Add the Water or Hydrosol of choice.


Shake well before each use.  Store in a dark, cool area.

 

Citrus Toner


Perfect for oily skin types that have clogged pores and/or blackheads and combination skin with dry areas.  The Lemon essential oil has astringent properties to tighten the pores after cleansing.  Lime Hydrosol helps balance the pH levels of the skin and reduces future breakouts.  Lemons are also great as a dietary supplement to help detox the liver and support healthy cellular function.


1 oz (30 ml) Lime Hydrosol

15 drops Lemon Essential Oil (you can add a few more drops if the scent is not aromatic enough for you) 

1 oz (30 ml) Glass Bottle with Sprayer


Combine the Lime Hydrosol with Lemon EO


Add to the glass bottle and mix thoroughly.


Shake well before each use. Store in a cool, dark space.

 

Coconut Rose Toner


This toner works well with dry skin types and sensitive/irritated skin.  The Rose Hydrosol helps balance pH levels and Coconut Oil soothes inflammation and nourishes the skin.


1 oz (30 ml) Rose Hydrosol

15 drops Coconut Oil

1 oz (30 ml) Glass Bottle with Sprayer


Add the Rose Hydrosol into the bottle and mix thoroughly.


Gently warm the coconut oil between your fingers before adding it, and add other essential oils if desired, for a stronger aroma.
